What is the KMES System?

The KMES System is a modular information management platform tailored to steel manufacturing enterprises. It spans core business areas - production, quality, equipment, logistics, and delivers fine-grained, data-driven control over every stage of the steel-making process:

Core Functional Modules

  1. Production Management

    • Order Management
Manage the complete production-order lifecycle, from receipt and breakdown through tracking and completion. Features such as Order and OrderItems let you record item details, analyse order data and lock, unlock or group orders to ensure smooth execution of your production plan.
    • Rolling Management
Oversee the steel-rolling workflow with the Rolling module for plan creation and process monitoring. RollingDetail logs the specifics of each rolling operation and rollingStatistics provides real-time performance analysis. Batch-sequencing via rollingSemiReblockingList optimises semi grouping for stable, efficient output.
    • Production Weighting & Resource Allocation
Use Section Weight to assign relative priorities to production stages or product lines, ensuring resources are allocated where they deliver the greatest impact.
  2. Quality Management

    • Standards & Specifications
Define and maintain steel-product quality criteria with Quality, AlternativeQualityCode and Quality Element, building a comprehensive quality framework.
    • Inspection & Analysis
Conduct sampling and testing across raw materials, semi and finished products. The Test module schedules inspections; TestResultTensile, TestResultImpactList and testHistory record results and historical trends for traceability and improvement.
    • Characteristic Analysis
Evaluate key quality parameters-such as carbon equivalent (CEV), elemental composition and product performance, using tools like CEVAnalysis and MainElementAnalysis to support continuous quality enhancement.
  3. Collaboration & Maintenance

    • Collaboration
The Mill module administers master data, operational status and maintenance schedules for different plants and warehouses, with MillList providing query capabilities.
    • Maintenance Management
The Maintenance module handles maintenance planning, task assignment and record-keeping; operationLog captures equipment operation logs, while MessageLog stores inter-system communication messages to ensure smooth operation.
  4. Product & Specification Management

    • Product Information
Store and organise product definitions, classifications, codes and dimensional parameters in Product and ProductCategory to guarantee data consistency.
    • Specifications & Formulations
Define spec parameters in Product Spec and manage recipes via Spec Formula; specList and specDetail offer rapid lookup and detail views to support production and quality control.
  5. Material & Inventory Management

    • Semi Inventory
Track semi items (billets, blooms, slabs etc.) through cast, storage, rework and movement using Semi, semiCastList and SemiStockLevel for complete lot-level visibility.
    • Finished Goods Inventory
Oversee warehousing, storage, loading and transport of finished products. RunoutDetail and RunoutList record unprocessed finished goods and their specifics, while FinishedProduct and FinishedProductDetail capture detailed product information. FinishedProductStockLevel monitors inventory in real time and AdviceList manages dispatch orders to ensure efficient distribution.
  6. Process & Workflow Management

    • Routing & Requirements
Configure production routes and parameters with RoutingRequirement, control supply conditions in SupplyConditions and set tolerances via Tolerance to enforce process consistency.
    • Special Process Control
Support niche operations, such as end-quench testing with JominyDetails or bespoke semi applications with ManualSemiEndUse,to meet specialised production needs.
  7. System Administration

    • Master Data Management
Maintain foundational data for customers, suppliers and equipment settings in Master Data; define user roles in roles, manage plant areas in area and fine-tune system behaviour in Setting and Config.
    • Support Utilities
Oversee consumable usage with CoveringUsage, record material handling in LoadList and TransportList, and plan shifts in Shift to bolster auxiliary operations.

Benefits

By orchestrating these modules, the KMES System brings transparency, standardisation and intelligence to your steel manufacturing operations - boosting productivity, safeguarding quality, streamlining resource use and cutting costs to help you stay competitive in today’s dynamic market.

Key Concepts

The KMES System digitises every element of the steel-making workflow:

  • Production Units & Resource Assignment
Tasks are allocated only to equipment and personnel authorised for each process stage, ensuring seamless coordination.
  • Dynamic Equipment Status
Monitor blast furnaces, converters, rolling mills and more in real time, with location-aware status updates.
  • Task Lifecycle Control
From raw-material smelting through billet casting and final rolling, each task’s timing and quality criteria are tracked end to end.
  • Equipment & Personnel Synchronisation
Only one production task per asset at any time, with operators credential-matched to their machinery.
  • Multi-Dimensional Task Classification
    • By process stage (iron-making, steel-making, rolling)
    • By resource type (blast-furnace operations, continuous-casting, mill operations)
    • By order priority (urgent vs routine)
    • …and more.
